这本的情节可以说非常简单，但是在纯粹的才华面前情节又算什么呢！看完这本最直观的感受就是，怎么能把留白的部分写得这么“满”和有实感，一处阴影，一把椅子都能有张力，每一个定格想拉长就拉长，想快进就快进，而不让人感到违和和中断。在Woolf的笔下，时间本身可以聚成形状：时间的流逝和静止如此真切可感又充满诗意，每一行都像是水滴折射里的投影，叫人感慨有些人真是被赋予了其他人无法企及的才华。
一个故事也可以这样写，没有“情节”的堆叠，反而更接近生活真实的样子。Woolf对于环境以及环境中人的心理活动的描述入木三分到每一句都想摘抄的地步，对“人”的理解和敏锐度令人佩服。有很多句子让我感觉说出了自己内心一直存在，但是难以描述的情绪：
…she could be herself, by herself. All the being and the doing, expansive, glittering, vocal, evaporated; and one shrunk, with a sense of solemnity, to being oneself, a wedge-shaped core of darkness, something invisible to others. …When life sank down for a moment, the range of experiences seemed limitless… the thing you know us by, are simply childish. Beneath it is all dark, it is all spreading, it is unfathomably deep; but now and again we rise to the surface and that is what you see us by.

The lyric cast of the sun, the teeming fields with tall plants nodding away under the intense midafternoon heat, the squeak of our wooden floors, or the scrape of the clay ashtray pushed ever so lightly on the marble slab that used to sit on my nightstand.
不管有没有电影的加成，这本都让人读起来很愉快——对我来说这本就是夏天本身：蓬勃葱郁，午后燥热的空气，水果的香气，粘腻的汗水。这是一本很“满”的书，但即便感官填的再“满”，也还是有一种从喉咙里伸出手来名为“longing”，“wanting”的挠心挠肝的感觉。
通常我不太爱看爱情故事，这本一开始我也差点没看下去，毕竟情节并没有很特殊的地方，但是Aciman挽留我全靠语言：饱满汹涌，又纯又欲，和一个少年的心境非常相称。
He came. He left. Nothing else had changed. I had not changed. The world hadn’t changed. Yet nothing would be the same. All that remains is dreammaking and strange remembrance.
读完这本，尤其是看完电影版，我也有点感觉到：all that remains is dreammaking and strange remembrance 有一个夏天属于Oliver和Elio，属于Sufjan Stevens的Mystery of love.
